TUM SEED Center: Research with Impact
At the SEED Center, "research with impact" constitutes the fundamental cornerstone of our mission. Our dedicated researchers and students engage in rigorous efforts to transcend the realm of theoretical knowledge, stepping forth into the real world with a resolute commitment to creating a meaningful and lasting difference. We firmly uphold the belief that research, particularly in regions where developmental challenges are most pronounced, should be a catalyst for positive change. Our unwavering focus is on pioneering solutions that proactively address real-world challenges and empower local communities. As we immerse ourselves in the intricate intersection of sustainable energies and entrepreneurship, we are deeply committed to the transformation of knowledge into actionable, meaningful initiatives. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that the research we conduct directly contributes to the creation of a more sustainable, equitable, and prosperous future for all.
Areas of Research
Research in sustainable entrepreneurship is an exploration of innovative business practices and models that harmonize economic viability with social equity and environmental responsibility. This dynamic field is dedicated to identifying and fostering businesses that pursue a triple bottom line of social, environmental, and financial goals, thus addressing global sustainability challenges. Sustainable entrepreneurship research seeks to empower enterprises to be responsible, resilient, and forward-thinking, driving positive change for a more sustainable and equitable future.
Research in sustainable energies, with a specific focus on mini-grids, delves into the innovative solutions that are revolutionizing energy access and utilization. Today, nearly half a billion people still lack access to energy, according to the World Bank. In this regard, mini-grids represent a vital component of decentralized, reliable, and clean energy systems and thus achieve SDG 7. Through rigorous investigation, we explore how these systems can effectively address energy poverty, mitigate environmental impacts, and drive economic development, particularly in underserved regions. Our research endeavors are geared towards harnessing the potential of sustainable energy solutions, like mini-grids, to power a greener and more inclusive future.
Research in e-mobility revolves around harnessing the potential of sustainable energies to power transportation solutions in remote and urban areas. By integrating electric mobility with sustainable energy sources, such as solar-powered mini-grids, we aim to provide research in clean, reliable, and cost-effective transportation options. This not only reduces the environmental impact but also fosters economic growth and enhances mobility in areas traditionally underserved by conventional transportation infrastructure or offering a real alternative in urban areas. Through innovative e-mobility research, we seek to contribute to the transformation of entire transport systems and improve the quality of life while contributing to a greener and more sustainable future.
