Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) was founded in 1981 initially as a college of Agriculture. JKUAT offers courses in Technology, Engineering, Science, Commerce, Management and Building sciences. The university has a strong research interest in the areas of biotechnology and engineering. With total of 13 schools, 2 institutes, and 15 university centres, JKUAT is ranked 3rd in Kenya (based on EduRank). In February 2010, JKUAT was selected as the host for the East and Central Africa regional institute of the Pan African University.
