The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) was founded in 1958 through a recommendation from the higher education committee of the Indian Government. IIT Bombay is the topmost preferred choice for Indian students in STEM fields such as computer science and engineering. The university comprises of 15 academic departments and 36 multi-disciplinary centres. Internationally, IIT Bombay was ranked 172 in the QS World University Rankings of 2023 and 40th in Asia.
