SEED Annual Symposium 2024 - Kenya
Hosted by JKUAT SEED Center, 24 - 30 August 2024
The 2024 Annual Symposium took place in Nairobi, Kenya, nestled within the heart of Silicon Savannah. Nairobi's thriving tech ecosystem and recent developments in the field of mini-grids and sustainable energies made it a perfect host to conclude the first funding phase. As an emerging hub for entrepreneurial growth and innovation, Nairobi is at the forefront of pioneering solutions, aligning perfectly with the symposium's goals. In total, we brought together more than 80 participants from all SEED partner universities, academia, industry, and civil society, discussing the latest topics and challenges related to SDG 7 and how to overcome these. Inspiring keynotes, hands-on workshops, and networking opportunities strengthened the SEED network making it stronger and sustainable for the future.
For one week in August, the Boma was transformed into a vibrant hub for exchange and discussions. As in the previous year, there was a pre-symposium session allowing SEED doctoral students and researchers to discuss their working papers. The official program covered the areas of policy, productive use of energy, e-mobility, disciplinary and interdisciplinary workshops, as well as a visit to Silicon Savannah, namely Ampersand Energy, Kenya Climate Innovation Center, and Koko Networks. These were only three examples of Nairobi's vibrant start-up ecosystem.
