Third HyperMet Progress Report
At the 3rd HyperMet Progress Meeting, several projects presented updates on their ongoing research activities and methodological developments. Manfred Blobner (University Hospital Ulm) reported on project P07 (HyperICU), which investigates metabolite exchange and muscle metabolism in critically ill patients using arteriovenous metabolomics. The project aims to characterize metabolic changes associated with muscle wasting and recovery during intensive care.
Tushar More (Technische Universität Braunschweig) presented progress in project S08 (HyperFlux), which provides stable-isotope–based metabolic flux analysis for the HyperMet research unit. The project focuses on establishing experimental and analytical workflows, supporting both in vitro and in vivo studies, and offering training and infrastructure for consortium-wide applications.
Dominik Lutter and Gabi Kastenmüller (Helmholtz Munich) presented updates on project S09 (HyperGraph), which develops computational approaches for integrating and interpreting multi-omics data. The project provides analysis pipelines and supports cross-project data integration, with a focus on identifying shared metabolic patterns across tissues and experimental conditions.
HyperMet research examines the impact of muscle growth (hypertrophy) and muscle loss (atrophy) on metabolism. Increased muscle mass reduces the risk of obesity, diabetes, osteoporosis, and potentially cancer. We are exploring the underlying metabolic processes to develop new strategies for prevention and everyday life.
