Request a Data Steward
Qualitative research data management (RDM) is an essential component of excellent research at TUM. Often it is a crucial criterion for research funding. Accordingly, dedicating one person solely to the project's RDM is a consistent and efficient decision for the entire research project. At TUM Research Data Hub, TUM researchers can request one of our Data Stewards and apply to integrate the Data Steward in their respective project.
What is a Data Steward's responsibility?
Data Stewards at TUM Research Data Hub are professionals specializing in research data management (RDM) and data science. Their central role involves guiding and implementing TUM's Guidelines on Handing Research Data. Their responsibilities include data stewardship, sustainable data storage, developing data analysis methods (e.g., AI, machine learning) and tools, data-related project communication, and serving as a point of contact for project teams and the TUM RDM community.
Why request a Data Steward?
In large research projects, standardized procedures for research data management (RDM) are essential and are required by funding agencies, particularly the DFG. Data Stewards can develop such procedures and manage research data centrally within the project. They are responsible for RDM throughout the project, including for participants from other institutions. To ensure expertise in RDM, Data Stewards act as a link between the project, TUM Research Data Hub, the various NFDI initiatives, and coordinated programs with TUM participation.
How to request a Data Steward?
For many funded programs such as Collaborative Research Centers (CRC), and Excellence Clusters, Data Steward positions can be requested. TUM offers co-financing for these positions if the Data Stewards are based at TUM Research Data Hub. The Data Stewards of TUM Research Data Hub manage the data in the project and serve as research data management multipliers at TUM. The actively gathered knowledge strengthens the expertise within the interconnected Data Steward pool and across the university.
