PhD students Tushar More and Collin Starke from the “Immunometabolism” research group led by Prof. Dr. Karsten Hiller (Technische Universität Braunschweig) informed members of the HyperMet research consortium about methods for metabolic profiling.
These analyses represent a core methodology within HyperMet and are applied by all subgroups. Accordingly, the procedures for preparing biological samples were explained in detail. In addition, the differences between targeted and non-targeted analyses were outlined.
Another focus was the use of stable isotope tracers, which allow precise insights into metabolic pathways.
These approaches generate high-resolution data on metabolic states and changes. However, the formulation of a clear biological question is essential for meaningful interpretation – only then can the full potential of these methods be realized.
