We are proud to announce a new publication by Prashant Pant (TUM SEED Center, Center for Combined Smart Energy Systems) and Prof. Dr. Frank-Martin Belz (Chair of Corporate Sustainability, TUM School of Management), published in Energy Policy (Elsevier).

The paper titled “Energy Market Liberalization and the Emergence of New Energy Ventures in Germany” analyzes 25 years of energy transition in Germany and its impact on the rise of innovative entrepreneurial ventures across the energy value chain.

Key insights:

• German energy policies have strongly supported the emergence of new energy ventures.
• Entrepreneurial activity is highly concentrated in downstream, customer-centric segments.
• The most dynamic growth areas include battery energy storage systems (BESS), heat pumps, and smart energy management solutions.

• The study emphasizes that technology alone is not enough — supportive policy frameworks and incentives are crucial drivers of innovation and adoption.
